Learn how to prevent suicide
Support young people by using the C.A.R.E. Kit
Practical suicide prevention
The C.A.R.E. Kit is a practical learning resource to help you gain knowledge and confidence when supporting young people.
The kit is powered by C.A.R.E. - 4 vital steps you can take to safely talk about suicide. They are Check-in, Ask, Remain close and Expert help.
Choose from three C.A.R.E. courses - Prevention, Early Intervention, and Crisis. Each offers relevant, practical guidance on how to be there for a young person depending on their situation.
Meet Wendy, CALM’s Director of Services. She used her expertise in suicide prevention to create the C.A.R.E. Kit.
We all have a role to play in keeping young people safe
Parents, guardians, caregivers
You can offer a supportive environment for them to open up. You probably
know them better than anyone, which means you can play a massive part
in helping them manage their mental wellbeing.
Extended family and friends
You’re close to them, but can also offer objectivity and a different perspective. You can have a no-judgement, informal conversation and encourage them to open up.
Teacher, coach or professional
A young person may feel more confident sharing with a professional. You offer a trusted perspective and can suggest approaches they may not consider otherwise.
Created by experts
Like all CALM’s support, the C.A.R.E. Kit has been created by experts in suicide prevention. It’s designed to help trusted adults to show up safely and effectively for the young people in their lives.
Parents, guardians, extended family or friends can play a vital role in keeping young people safe. Use the C.A.R.E. KIT to learn how.
